Our History

FUNDO LA ESTRELLA

Fundo La Estrella is a family owned "ranch" located in XI Región de Aysén (Chile), dedicated to cattle raising.

Don Jorge González Salfate, "Huaso" and airplane pilot bought the Fundo in 1977, and ever since he lived there he always received visitors with open arms, being a rather unusual and peculiar host.

Offering the Fundo and opening our doors for  tourism has been a dream inspired by him and his great hospitality; As direct descendants from Don Jorge we want to preserve his memory, fulfilling this dream and opening up our doors to people from all over the world, and in this way show this place, which has always had an intimate and sentimental value for our family.

We seek to rescue and continue with the traditions of our Region, and we open up our doors to anyone who wants to learn about the work that is done in this cattle ranch called Fundo, and to those who want to share our livestyle, rooted in the horse saddle, animals and land.

BACK TO THE ORIGIN

Since ancient times the horse has accompanied man in all of his work, from agricultural tasks to brutal war, pulling chariots, moving cargo and being a fundamental companion for the transportation of the human being. This is emphasized in our Region, a Region where people live and struggle with nature forces every day, and the work in the country side is tough, fierce and lonely.

Since ancient times, man has migrated on the back of his horse, along with his packhorse and dog, making trips of even weeks to the nearest town to get the food and supplies to survive winter. Over the years the so-called "progress" and urbanization are taking with them all traces of the culture rooted to this wonderful animal.

More and more people have access to gravel or paved roads, and enough money to buy a vehicle. Natural Parks do not help much to preserve this culture; since they fragment the land, and horses are not allow to enter by law. For us, this animal has been a fundamental ally throughout the years, and it continues to be every day in our daily tasks, whether it is searching cattle in dense forest, participating in drives and roundups, serving as transport and company to patrol the Fundos or Estancias, showing their agility in the pastures and pens, or simply carrying us on recreational rides.

We refuse to lose this Heritage, and therefore we want to rescue it along with teaching the whole world the power of our horses; how noble and brave they are when they face day-to-day deep mud, freezing rain, rushing rivers and not very cooperative bulls.

Horses are an essential part of the human essence itself. We invite you to ride again, saddle up your old "pingo" (horse) and go out for a nice ride in the countryside.

Saddle up again, go back to the origins of humanity.

EMPOWERING WOMEN

The ironys that happen in life gave Don Jorge 5 admirable daughters, each one special and powerful in their own way they established their homes in different parts of the continent, and today they reside from Rapa Nui to Buenos Aires, passing through Santiago and the magical Chilean Patagonia.

Descendant of these wonderful women, Manuela Muñoz González, creator, administrator and horse trails guide of the Fundo, seeks to value the power of women. This is why we have special programs, designed exclusively for women, so that we can enjoy the safety of female camaraderie.

Let's dare to share stories, tales and "mates", contrasted with a rustic environment, in which the male figure has always prevailed.

Manuela is a horse lover, Veterinarian, rider and knows her horse herd very well, so she will seek to ensure the safety and comfort of visitors, choosing the perfect equine companion for your stay with us.
